    This is my holy grail salon. Michelle is always so sweet and amazing to talk to throughout the service. The front desk staff is very inviting and personable to all clientele. They offer refreshments when entering and the atmosphere is always super inviting. I’ve been coming here for three years or more and I’ve never had a bad experience! Having curly hair, it can be very difficult to find someone who is as caring as Michelle. She is amazing! Can not recommend Avant Garde Salon enough :)

    Brittany King did a phenomenal job on my haircut! Really listened to what I wanted, gave suggestions, and was super pleasant to talk to! I got about 3-4 inches cut off and asked for curtain bangs, long layers and face framing. My already fine hair has gone through quite a few pre-and postpartum hair-shedding phases, so I desperately needed an update. I feel like a new mama! Will definitely be returning:)

    Fantastic service! I was looking for a keratin treatment that will solve my frizzy Florida hair problems, and upon doing some research I found this salon. It was easy to make an appointment and their Cezanne Smoothing Treatment seemed like a good choice for my hair. The staff were welcoming and the salon was clean and organized. Brittany was very friendly and did a fantastic job with my hair! She even took before and after pictures for me. I am so so happy with the final result and this salon. For my long hair I paid $260 before tipping; which I already expected since the staff were transparent about how much it would cost for various hair lengths. The only confusing part was finding the parking garage, which the front desk easily directed me to over the phone. Will definitely be coming back here!

    I recently had my hair done by Bronson, and I couldnt be happier with the results! She took the time to listen to what I wanted. Her attention to detail, professionalism, and friendly personality made the whole experience enjoyable. I highly recommend Bronson to anyone looking for a talented and dedicated hair stylist.     Kyle has wonderfully positive, healing energy. I highly recommend his massages. He is very skilled in technique and I felt comfortable with him. Everyone I met in the salon was super nice. There is free parking on the first floor of the garage which is kind of behind the salon… was a little tricky to find, but thankfully Blue Gill restaurant had a street level sign that helped me find it. Beautiful jewelry for sale by a local artist. And the salon has all Aveda products so it smelled wonderful. I booked my next massage already!

My stylist, Candace, is nothing short of phenomenal. She always takes the time to explain what works best for my curly/mixed hair and ensures I leave feeling confident and well-informed. Her expertise and attention to detail are unmatched. Highly recommend!

    Avant Garde Salon is a professional and welcoming place! Everyone is incredibly kind and friendly. Candace is my hair stylist/colorist and she is AMAZING! She is excellent at what she does; she asks clarifying questions to ensure she knows what I want! She also knows her products and helped suggest what to try for my type of hair. This is a wonderful place with friendly people who are excellent at what they do!! Highly recommended and I am looking forward to my next appointment.

    I‘ve always been well taken care of here by Beth. She is incredibly knowledgeable about hair and knows how to take you from uninformed and wary to well-informed and confident in taking care of your hair. She knows how to bring out the best in you, provides great style recommendations and is very helpful in explaining common misconceptions and what to do instead. Thoughtful, solution-oriented and caring; what more can you ask for in a stylist?

    Michelle is a brilliant hair stylist. I love what she has done with my rather inadequate description of what I wanted. The pictures I showed her were only approximately what I wanted. So she took the time to check in with me each time she took an inch off my hair even though I had already told her I wanted about 3 inches off. Similarly she checked in several times while changing my hair style too. She is patient, friendly and a good listener. She also understands that people like me ask for a radical change in my length or hairstyle I might not be entirely sure of the end result. Hence the many check-ins during the process. I have lived in many cities and thus gotten haircuts all over the country. And she is one of the top two hairstylists in my experience over the last 15 years.

    I am new to the Gainesville area. To me, finding a great hairdresser is as important as finding a great doctor, yes I have a streak of vanity! Avant-Garde matched me up with Beth. What a great fit! She diagnosed my hair which is short, thinning, and my color fades quickly. She made some suggestions and we agreed on a plan. I was very happy with the results after the first visit. We got a little bolder the second visit and I was thrilled with results. The color was great and the cut was so easy to care for. I actually have been stopped and complimented on my hair cut. I dont think people know the color is not mine. Today was my third visit and I am beyond thrilled! Beth tweaked the color a little bit, always cheecking in with me and what I think. I love how Beth took the time over our first three visits to get to know me and my hair, not rushing the results. Im hooked. I love the Aveda products the salon uses. Icant until my next appointment!

    Candice is a cut above the rest! Not only does she wield her scissors like a magic wand, but she also has a knack for turning a simple haircut into a comedy show. You may come in with your hair splitting, but you will leave with your sides splitting! From the moment I sit in her chair, I know I’m in for a treat. She regales me with hilarious stories about her quirky family all while expertly snipping away.She is as sharp as her shears, and her talent is hair-raising! She has an uncanny ability to tame even the most rebellious locks. My hair used to have a mind of its own, but now it listens to her like a well-trained poodle!

    Baesha is a Queen. She had me in and out of there so fast Im pretty sure I went back in time, even while taking the time to answer questions I had.Dawn and Kyle are like yin and yang, I highly recommend alternating between them. I am recovering from an injury and can already feel the impact of both of their work.Please visit these people and tip them all of your money. Also everybody at the front desk makes my day, every time.

    From amazing staff to assist with scheduling (shout out to Donovan), to my master stylist Beth, a great place to get a short clipper cut in a warm and relaxing environment. Location is also a definite plus for those of us in healthcare as it’s steps away from UF Health Shands hospitals. Highly recommend!

    I had such a lovely experience at this salon! I was so nervous to get my hair cut away from home, but Beth was excellent. It was honestly the best experience I’ve EVER had at a salon. She was kind, patient, super cool, and very informative which I appreciated as someone who has never really been great at styling my own hair. She instructed me what she thought would benefit my hair, which products I should lean towards, and checked in with me every step of the way. I left the salon feeling like a whole new person and I can’t stop smiling at my reflection. Hair is so important and I am so grateful I found a new place that takes it as seriously as I do!!     This salon is absolutely amazing and I will definitely be returning. As a Latina female it’s hard to trust just anyone with my hair. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and offered a beverage. The salon is a very upscale feel with reasonable pricing. My hair felt soft, good and was cut well. This is the second time I have come to this salon and I will be returning in December for my third appointment!

    For the first time in my life, I can say I LOVE my haircut thanks to Candice!Being Korean not many people are as familiar with cutting my hair type. I had been going to the same Korean hair stylist since I was a kid, and every other time I went somewhere else I was unhappy with the results. I went to Avant Garde once a few months ago and my haircut was just okay. I decided to go back because the staff are really friendly and nice, and I think their prices are reasonable.I’m so glad I gave them another visit because Candice has been the only person to give me perfect face framing layers - even better than my long-time stylist! As my hair grows out I have been loving it more and more. I really enjoyed Candice’s funny and laidback personality, and I hope she can keep taking care of my hair every time I go back in the future!

    My stylist, Jessica, is talented and friendly. She hears me when I try to explain the look Im going for, and delivers flawlessly. I highly recommend her.My only complaint recently was that during checkout after my appointment last week, the person at the desk didnt explain that I was tipping not only on the service, but on the expensive products I purchased. I realized this when I got home and posted a 4-star review in which I recommended Jessica, and explained my frustration with check-out process.Within 24-hours of posting my review, I received a call from Donovan, their Guest Relations Manager. She acknowledged my feedback and explained how the salon is working with the staff to ensure this does not happen again in the future.From there, Donovan credited back the amount I over-payed and, of course, won me over. I changed my review and will not hesitate to buy more product there in the future.Thank you to the staff at Avant Garde for being a caring and responsive team, and for delivering great service!

    I recently moved to this area and needed continued maintenance for my extensions. After speaking with a few different salons I decided to give this one a try. From the moment I called to set up my appointment I was impressed.I met with Candice today and she was lovely. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and kept our conversation going. I have very curly hair and needed a haircut, and Beth was amazing at not only catering to my needs but also giving me advice on how to better manage such tough curls.     I love going to Avant Garde! I look forward to my pedicure with Baesha or Bronson every month because I know it is 45 minutes of pampered relaxation and “me” time. They make my thick nails and callused feet look pretty!I also love getting my hair cut there! I’ve been to Jessica and Tyler who are both excellent stylists. I highly recommend getting the gloss treatment for a month of shiny, supermodel hair!Michelle is an excellent stylist. Anyone would be happy having her work on their hair.

    Im very embarrassingly blinking on her name, but my stylist not only gave me an excellent nail clipping, and a soothing wash and rub of very sensitive toes, but she engaged me in rich, engaging, and rewarding conversation.Ill be coming back to see her as much as my finances allow, both because It will keep my toenails in the best shape theyve ever been in, but also because I found the session relaxing and rewarding in a way I was not expecting but was very pleased to discover.

    Awesome as always. Shawna is a top notch stylist. The salon is impeccable and goes the extra mile to make you comfortable. Bonus points for superb customer service and services available. Michael and Donovan do a great job with grace and ease as they manage the customer flow at the desk and take care of the needs and requirements of the customer flow (Michael appeared in front of me with a much needed cup of tea.     I couldn’t be happier with Ronnie. She is the best stylist I’ve ever had. She actually listens and takes her time to understand exactly what you want. She’s very professional and does the best job with color and with cuts. She’s easy to talk to and kind. She has been my go to stylist for about 6 years now even though I drive over an hour to see her. Donavan at the front desk is also amazing. He makes you feel very welcomed and relaxed. I first went for my 40th bday, and next week I will be 44! Brittney is the best hairstylist I’ve ever had in my life. She is amazing. Jess is also fantastic. Everyone at this salon is so kind and welcoming, and I absolutely recommend this wonderful gem in Gainesville!!Everything about my experience here was fantastic. First, I’d like to thank Donovan at reception. He was kind enough to take my call on a Friday after 5pm seriously as I hoped against hope for a full color treatment as a new client for the next day (Saturday). I hoped to hear from them, and certainly didn’t expect to. I did mention that it was my birthday Sunday, and he wished me well.I did hear from them the following day, and he was able to get me in for a full color with perfect timing! Rachel is my new person for hair. She did such an incredible job. I had dyed my own hair black (it’s back to beautiful red now! And I do mean beautiful!) She had to put me through a bleach rinse, wash, color, wash, all very difficult with a new client and no warning! She nailed it! She was also able to make everything look easy, checked in with me repeatedly and walked me through what to expect next.Everyone was so pleasant and helpful. It was my birthday on Sunday, so I was just thrilled with everyone being so helpful and actually believing it was my birthday, because it was!So to Donovan for making the appointment happen, the rest of the staff for being so pleasant, and especially to Rachel for being so Awesome; and not only fixing my hair, but exceeding my expectations: Thank You!     I had a WONDERFUL experience here today! Once I came in, the receptionist was so inviting and so sweet. I don’t know who they are but they deserve a pay raise:) they got me a beverage and really made me feel special on my first visit with their smile and care. As soon as I messaged, they got me in with her ASAP to correct (at no additional cost), and the salon manager even contacted me too.They were completely understanding and made me feel comfortable asking for a correction. After going back in and seeing her again, I left with exactly what I wanted and another appointment in the books.Wonderful service and staff, they understand hair is important and an investment.     I love Avant-Garde Salon and first starting coming here because of Calla. Calla is a true artist with hair and the way that she finds the exact color match for you is incredible. She does my roots every month and gets the color so perfect that I don’t have to dye my entire head of hair at every appointment, thus keeping my hair as healthy as possible. She is also very talented with cuts and blow dry styling. More than anything, she is caring and attentive to her clients’ needs. I also go to see Kyle for a monthly massage and he is very professional yet incredibly compassionate towards his clients, always making them feel comfortable and cared for.     I followed Katie here from another salon in town and love the new atmosphere. Parking is simple and free in the attached garage. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and offered a beverage. The salon is spacious, clean, and comfortable. Most importantly, the staff seem very happy to be here. Katies work was amazing as always, but I can also highly recommend Calla (in fact, from what Ive seen, all of the stylists really do excellent work). Make an appointment well in advance, as these stylists are perfectionists and truly take their time to make sure you are completely satisfied.

Ive seen multiple stylists there and have always left more than satisfied. The stylists are talented, professional, and truly experts at what they do.     I’ve been going to Avant Garde every 3ish weeks, exclusively, for the last 4+ years for a reason - because their level of expertise and talent is simply unmatched 🤌🏻Excuse me while I rave about how great they are. I’ve been to a couple dozen salons in my life all over the country and Avant Garde is in my top 3 favorites. I typically see Michelle, Candice or Bronson but everyone working there is the best of the best. Just as important as their knowledge, the warm/happy vibe they’ve created at the salon is really wonderful & a treat to look forward to. Dom at the front desk is such a sweetie pie too🫶🏻.My hair was a trainwreck when I first came to Avant Garde back in like 2019/2020 (super damaged, a conglomerate of colors and very poorly cut - by yours truly 🤦🏻‍♀️😅 Not part of my skill set, haha). Michelle tackled this monster of a project. Somehow she gradually (and magically) transformed my hair which ultimately gave us a a healthy template to work with moving forward. I needed major damage control in the form of color correction and overall repair. It was a massive undertaking and I’m not exaggerating when I say that Michelle performed a miracle on these locks! 🩵She was super forthcoming with me about the process of getting from where I was to where I wanted to be in terms of my hair’s length and overall health and taught me a bunch of stuff about how to take better care of it in general. She was always very transparent by communicating any potential hiccups along the way and she was able to seamlessly pivot our strategy as needed with each learning experience (it was all trial & error before we nailed a color that I fell in love with and have since stuck with).The chemistry there is great and I’ve always felt like I was in good hands. They’ve become my friends over the years and it’s cool seeing them once or twice a month to catch up. Michelle is so kind and we’ve become close as fellow dog/cat moms 🐶. Candice is literally just a treasure of a person - like sunshine to be in the vicinity of and VERY funny☀️Bronson is super nice too and is always a hoot to chat with 😆 I don’t think I could say enough positive things about them! Even with the most challenging cases (mine being one of them) - they’ll help you accomplish what you’re looking for. Everyone there has been perfecting their skills for years and take continuing education seriously (like taking the initiative to attend a ton of workshops to fine-tune their craft and learn new trending things - which I absolutely love!). Personally, I’m super particular about who I trust with my hair because it’s a big part of my identity & it’s important to me (especially after I lost a ton of it in my twenties due to lupus/chemo and it’s finally bouncing back to its original state/length nearly a decade later). I’ve also had my fair share of hair coloring disasters which has given me a bit of anxiety about all the things that can go sideways when experimenting with dyes/coloring in general. With that being said, it’s always been crucial for me to work with someone skilled in that realm and a good communicator. Finding Avant Garde was an absolute home run. They’re truly mindful during consults and will give their genuine feedback while also staying flexible. The teamwork there is incredible too with how they bounce ideas off one another. I love the camaraderie and atmosphere in general. Candice is especially great about client education too which is something that I appreciate! She’s awesome about being proactive by giving haircare tips in terms of maintenance and encouraging healthy new growth. She’s also really good at explaining the chemistry involved with using dyes and and breaking things down into laymen’s terms so an ordinary person like me can understand the science behind the hair coloring process. Overall, everyone there is fantastic and I can vouch for that professionally and personally!     This salon was professional & clean before COVID-19, but they have managed to find a way to make the client experience very comfortable while also being VERY safe & clean. My stylist Chelsea is phenomenal. I only see her every 6 month but she always makes me feel like it was just yesterday since the last time we spoke. Since coming to Avant Garde and seeing Chelsea, my curly wavy hair has gotten so healthy and regained a lot of its curl pattern. I’m very happy to have found a salon I can trust with my hair and my health.

    One of the best salon experiences I’ve ever had! Calla was phenomenal!! She took the time to listen to what I wanted and talked me through everything she was doing. She discussed the price with me beforehand and made sure that we were on the same page about the cut and color I wanted!! The shampoo/head massage was amazing!! The receptionist was so incredibly kind and made sure I was comfortable while waiting and gave me all the information I needed when leaving. It seriously was the best service industry experience I’ve had in a very long time!!

    They were amazing! Mario is an amazing hairdresser, who knows how to do short asymmetrical cuts with razors and thinning shears! He made me look amazing and always does. He is also exceptionally kind and the staff at Avant Guarde is wonderful! Donnavan is always Cheerful and helpful in all the aspects of the salon. Overall I’ve never been to such a wonderful and professional salon with the best people! I’d recommend them to everyone! You will never go anywhere else!

    Beth was great! It was my first time at the salon and with a new stylist and I was a little apprehensive at first.     I’ve been coming to this Salon for many years. No matter who I see, the staff always provides excellent services, and I always leave with a huge smile on my face. I come in for cuts and highlights, and they always pick a gorgeous blonde shade personalized for me! I currently live about two hours out of town, but I refuse to find another stylist in my area because Avant Garde is so good!! I’m willing to make the commute to get perfect results. They also offer free drinks and are very kind and personable. I always recommend them to anyone!

    I haven’t been to a hair salon in 10 years and I absolutely love this one! Coming from someone who has had bad experience when it comes to people cutting my hair , Beth did an amazing job!!     Avant Garde is the best!!! I have gone here multiple during Covid and it is very clean and professional! Brittney is my stylist and she is just amazing! I showed her a picture of what I wanted and I got exactly that! She is much more skilled than any other stylist I have gone to in Florida and she does not push you to buy any products! He explained the technique and watching him implement it was an education. A real plus is that I could replicate the style the next morning. In a word, the experience was amazing.     Mario helped me make a drastic change by cutting off all my long hair into a sweet short style. He took his time to make sure the end cut looked great and that I was thrilled, even offering to do a second hour of work if I wasnt pleased. But I was pleased right away. The combination of a fantastic cut and style left me leaving the salon with a lighter step and confidence. He used a razor and scissors and cut it wet and finished it dry to make sure it looked as fabulous as I hoped! I will be returning, and perhaps trying more edgy styles because I have full trust in Mario and his skills!Besides the personal attention, the salon was clean and social distanced, I was screened before I went in and masks stayed on the whole visit. Friendly, professional, and safe!

    I haven’t had my hair cut in over a year (except for my own quick & dirty trim at home). I’m moving soon, and wanted to fix the mess of my mane up, and reached out to Calla for a consultation. The date of my travel moved up, by a month, and Calla was so understanding and she personally let me know of a cancellation so she could get me in sooner.Even though I trusted her abilities fully, Calla included me in the the cutting process by checking in with me, something that I truly appreciated since I hadn’t had my hair done by her before.You can tell that Calla is very adept at what she does, and uses her expertise to collaborate with her clients to make sure they love her work and leave her chair feeling great. I got bangs for the first time since high school, and was so nervous to get them from a hairdresser I hadn’t been to before. (They turned out amazingly).Those with social anxiety: with Calla (and I’m sure others at Avant Garde) there won’t be crying in the car because you were too scared to say something to your hairdresser in the moment. They care!

    I used to be bleach blonde and during quarantine my roots grew out too much so I just boxed dyed in dark brown to match my natural color. Almost a year later, I decided I wanted to get back to the blonde again so I made a consultation at Avant Garde. My consultation was with Bronson (who I havent seen any reviews about, but spoiler alert shes amazing) and she asked great questions and made recommendations based on my current hairs condition and gave me realistic expectations for my first visit based on the test strand she did. She prioritized keeping my hair healthy and explained all my options as my hair wasnt in the best shape. I booked an apt with her for a month later and she gave me a bunch of samples to help my hair in the mean time leading up to the visit. I just went in for my cut and color and she did AMAZING! She is super super cool and honest about the entire experience, and got me as light as I couldve considering the state of my hair. Im coming back in 6 weeks to go lighter as recommended by her to give my hair time to breathe. It was so refreshing to have a hair professional test my hair, take time to figure out exactly what I want, and emphasize keeping my hair healthy all the while not promising exactly what I desired because my hair would be unrepairable if she were to develop my boxed dye uneven hair that much! The care and attention to detail was great. The end result was an ashy blonde with a nice shadow root, and she even gave me some nice face framing blonder pieces in the front. Love it.Also, when I arrived, I was offered a free manicure because the nail lady had an opening and it was a lovely surprise. She did a great job as well! I loved my experience at this salon and I would recommend it 100%. Im glad I trusted Bronson with my hair journey and I will be back (I also bought all their products I sampled before my visit because they smell great and make your hair feel amazing!).     I had my hair cut about a year ago and I should have said then that the cut was perfect! I had a consultation yesterday for my wedding up-do and I am feeling confident about it! I really appreciated the stylist suggesting I come in with clean dry hair a couple weeks before my wedding to get a trim, and in exchange for washing and blow drying she would instead do a test run of my up-do. ALSO, I got some Aveda Restore shampoo and treatment I can ALREADY so a huge improvement to my straight hair.

    The salon was more clean than some doctor office’s I’ve been to lately, everyone was wearing a mask. Everyone was friendly and professional, and Michelle gave me the best haircut for my wavy/curly hair I’ve ever had. I had a dead battery after arriving and AAA had to come while I was there.     As always Avant Garde salon was amazing. This time I experienced the salon during the COVID-19 pandemic a week after the governor opened up business. The owners Rob and Mike had a perfectly designed assessment, check-in, and social distancing process. They also had signs posted throughout reminding patrons about safety precautions. This was all very well thought out! Chelsea of course did not disappoint for my curly cut and color. She always is responsive to curly hair needs and offers great suggestions. FYI her cuts are so masterful even after 10 weeks during the physical distancing my hair shape was still very nice. While everyone was complaining about needing their COVID Cuts, my curls were still lovely :) Now, after refreshed shape, color, and toner - hair is fabulous. Many thanks Avant Garde salon team!!     Avant Garde is hands down the best salon I have been to in Gainesville. From the moment you walk through the doors, you are treated with care and respect. They have the highest standard of professionalism and cleanliness, which is especially important now during COVID-19 season.     I went here for the first time cutting my curly hair super short. I was TERRIFIED but I booked it with Chelsea who came really highly recommended. She was super nice and answered all of my questions. I LOVE IT. At first I was shocked with how short my hair was but I styled it today and my curls have NEVER looked so beautiful. I will not be going to any other salon ever and will be recommending my friends. This is the most volume I’ve ever had and it looks almost exactly like the pictures I showed her.     Michel is AMAZING. I had an issue with my hair and she took the time to talk to me about it, explained what had happened and not only fixed my color but made it PERFECT. She took the orange out of my hair and its perfectly highlighted and the blonde that Ive been trying to get to for years. The best highlights Ive had in Florida. The salon was super professional and clean and they provided an awesome experience with refreshments and a scalp massage/hot towel with the hair wash.     My hair is hard to do. I can never find a stylist who can bring out the gray in my hair and make it a beautiful silver. Plus it’s long and a total PITA...but Katie Browning at Avant Garde CAN. She’s stealth with her shears and creative with color. It’s her passion and it shows in her work. The salon itself is beautiful and warm and edgy. It’s loved by so many and it shows.     Avant Garde has something for everybody and deals that make it a much more competitive salon than most in the area. Olivia Walters does an amazing job with creative colours and I highly recommend her. Tyler Sharpe is also another excellent hairdresser there that Ive worked with and made me feel really comfortable as a consumer.

    I hate getting my hair cut but love this place. Love that you can book online. Bougie, but normal salon prices. I always go to Candice, she is super chill and nice and easy to talk to. I also had a good haircut with Tyler once, and Ive heard good things about Alf. Parking is free for customers in the garage (the salon is in the first floor of the garage building).Update 2/9/2020: I switched to Alf and hes incredible. Highly recommend, especially for more punk cuts and/or vibrant color service.
